Bulgari Resort & Residences Dubai: the best in real estate at Jumeirah Bay

Opened in 2017, it quickly became a must-visit destination in the city. The Bulgari Resort and Residences stands on an artificial island shaped like a seahorse in the famous Jumeirah Bay, between skyscrapers and its private beach. It boasts 101 rooms and 20 villas, and the world's first Bulgari Yacht Club was created in its marina. It is the most expensive hotel and residential complex in the emirate.

Bulgari Resort and Residences: Jumeirah Bay in Dubai

This is the hotel "everyone" is talking about in Dubai, a city that never fails to give reasons to comment on the excellence of its frenetic real estate activity. In a destination populated by cranes destined to touch the sky, Bulgari Resort and Residences has only four floors and no gilding. Discreet, elegant, harmonious, it exudes class and a level of finishing rarely achieved in this part of the world. Inaugurated in December 2017, the Bulgari Resort Dubai won the Luxury Travel Intelligence (LTI) Award for the best opening of 2017 just weeks after opening its doors, beating at the last minute names that had made headlines, such as the Hôtel de Crillon in Paris or The Ned in London... Does it deserve it? The list of merits of the Bulgari Resort and Residences seems as endless as its impressive demonstration of meticulousness, from the design of the building facades to the wooden shoe horns awaiting guests in suites as beautiful as they are spacious. Also noteworthy is that each terrace has its own private pool.

Bulgari Resort and Residences: The best of made in Italy

The life of Bulgari Resort and Residences started grandly, with power. With a big party with beautiful people from all over the world. Really beautiful. Actress Alicia Vikander, models Bella Hadid, Jasmine Sanders, and Jon Kortajarena, among others, hosted an event with a dolce vita flavor, where elegant guests wearing Bulgari jewelry mingled, as expected, with long dresses, evening jackets, or impeccable kandoras and abayas.

Two lesser-known names cut the red ribbon: Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bulgari, and Abdulla Al Habbai, chairman of Meraas Holding. Here is the winning tandem: a century-old jewelry house representing the best of made in Italy and one of the leading real estate groups in the Gulf. Abundance of know-how and petrodollars, luxury expertise, and market knowledge. Bulgari opened its first resort in Milan in 2004 and gradually expanded a select portfolio born from the vocation "to bring the experience of Italian luxury, design, and creativity to the world," in the words of Jean-Christophe Babin.

Bulgari Resort and Residences: Expansion Plan

For its successful hotel venture, Bulgari had the expertise of the Marriott sector, an embodiment of luxury, akin to Ritz-Carlton or Edition, among others. The involvement of the Italian team was total: it is the prototype of what a collaboration between two big names in different sectors should be. The success of Bulgari hotels is attested by their awards and occupancy rates. Despite their high prices, they also have ambitious expansion projects: they will soon open in Los Angeles and Miami and have recently opened in Paris and Tokyo.

For now, Dubai is undoubtedly the new crown jewel of this exclusive hotel brand. At the helm of this delicious candy, which has become the most expensive hotel in Dubai (room prices starting from 400 euros/night and villas at 2,000 euros), is the affable and energetic Spanish director Pep Lozano. After stints at Arts (Barcelona) and Abama (Tenerife) hotels, he took over the Ritz-Carlton in Doha and Abu Dhabi. He is thus well acquainted with Marriott's luxury brands and the Gulf market, where he has lived for over five years. He is responsible for some 500 employees of 60 different nationalities. A young, enthusiastic, and plenteous team for a resort with only 101 rooms and 20 villas, a true world apart, well located in Jumeirah Bay, on an artificial island, but 10 minutes away by car from the bustling Burj Khalifa, whose splendor can be seen from the terraces.

Beach on one side, skyscrapers on the other. With Meraas as a partner, the location was guaranteed. "In the tradition of the Bulgari brand worldwide, we want our hotel complex to offer the best customer service. Everything in the hotel is of the highest quality and craftsmanship, but I might emphasize the villas, which have been created with the quality of service and privacy that the market demands from us," explains Mr. Lozano in the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

Italian Design Inside and Out

Although the villas are spectacular, with their gardens and private pools, the entire Bulgari Resort and Residences complex is impeccably designed. Its design, like that of the rest of the Bulgari complex, is the work of the famous Italian architectural firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel. Unlike the ubiquitous skyscrapers in Dubai, the property's understated, low architecture, made of white Carrara marble, is adorned with horizontal layers of coral, through which light passes, creating an interesting play of shadows.

Inside, there is an elegant display of furniture from the best Italian companies: B&B, Flexform, Flos, Maxalto, on floors and walls of Iranian green onyx, Mongolian black granite, and Italian marble cut into the mass. The rooms are exquisitely tasteful and follow the same level of detail, quality, and finishing. The amenities are exclusively made for the complex, cashmere blankets rest on the beds, and the rugs are handmade. The minibars are beautiful leather Bulgari boots. Everything seems to be made with the same level of quality, craftsmanship, and precision as a jewel from the Roman firm. Is there such a thing as a jewel hotel? It would seem so.

Bulgari Resort Dubai: Rooms and Apartments

The establishment offers a total of 101 rooms. From superior rooms of 55 m² to junior suites of 80 m², all benefit from spacious areas, high ceilings, and large windows allowing natural light to penetrate, thus offering breathtaking views of the ocean and/or Dubai skyline.

The villas, ranging in size from 140 m² to 250 m², equipped with private pools and direct beach access, are harmoniously distributed in a lush garden adorned with frangipani trees. In each room, there are king-size beds adorned with sumptuous Bulgari silk plaids, as well as contemporary Italian-designed furniture, tinted in light colors.

The walls are adorned with photographs by artists and lithographs paying tribute to Bulgari's iconic art. In room 333, a selection of beautiful books adorns the coffee table, such as "Bulgari: The Joy of Gems" (edited by Assouline), where one can admire Andy Warhol alongside Liz Taylor, radiant in the Bulgari interior he describes as a "contemporary art museum".

A Roman classicism atmosphere permeates every corner of the rooms, where minibars are cleverly concealed in large white leather trunks with refined style. The refrigerator is stocked with special care, in line with the excellence standards of an establishment like Bulgari Resort. The spacious wardrobes invite reverie. Outlets and switches are discreetly integrated into a drawer of the bedside table. In the bathroom, equipped with an Italian shower and bathtub, in line with the requirements of a five-star hotel, toiletries bear the Bulgari brand imprint. Impeccable refinement.

Bulgari Resort and Residences: Private Beach, Gastronomy, and Botany

The hotel has a private beach and a pleasant and spacious garden, equipped with elegant and comfortable furniture, where one can forget the cold and damp Parisian winter. On Saturdays, the La Spiaggia restaurant hosts a splendid outdoor barbecue brunch. Italian chef Niko Romito, three-time Michelin-starred, is the culinary consultant for the complex. He offers several options, including Il Ristorante, classic Italian dishes with Romito's own touch of modernity genius. The restaurant has a terrace that overlooks the complex's marina, the world's first Bulgari Yacht Club. Another Italian gem with a charming social club open to hotel guests. Undoubtedly the best place to moor a Riva during a cruise on Sinbad's seas.

The Restaurant

Inspired by the sophisticated design of the original Bulgari Hotel Milan, Il Ristorante, Niko Romito at Bulgari Resort Dubai pays tribute to the richness of Italian gastronomy. Every detail of the restaurant's layout has been meticulously chosen to ensure an impeccable culinary experience. Raised banquettes offer panoramic views of the Persian Gulf, while a dark ceiling creates a dinner under the stars atmosphere. Niko Romito, renowned Italian chef of Michelin-starred Bulgari Hotels and Resorts, has exclusively designed for Il Ristorante an Italian concept that skillfully combines tradition and modernity, reinterpreting Italy's culinary delights with a contemporary touch.

Bulgari Yacht Club

Located on the edge of a private port that can accommodate 46 boats, the very first Bulgari Yacht Club offers an atmosphere reminiscent of the French Riviera or the Italian Riviera in the heart of Dubai. With its various facilities, such as an Italian seafood restaurant, a members-only lounge, a swimming pool and outdoor bar, as well as the Little Gems Club, the brand's first mini-club, the Yacht Club promises to be an exceptional venue in its own right.
